On this site CP42 is the everyday name for commercial catering gas safety certification — kitchen appliances, pipework and ventilation used in food businesses, not a domestic landlord CP12.

How catering gas duties differ from a domestic CP12

A landlord CP12 is the residential gas safety record. Catering kit in a restaurant, café or hotel kitchen is workplace equipment. HSE’s catering FAQ says employers must keep gas appliances, flues, pipework and safety devices in a safe condition, inspected by a competent person. Periods vary with the equipment and manufacturer’s instructions; annual inspection is described as a reasonable minimum.

HSE Catering Information Sheet 23 also ties gas safety to kitchen ventilation and make-up air. Incomplete combustion and carbon monoxide are the risks when extraction or interlocks are wrong. Work must be done by a Gas Safe engineer qualified for the appliances.

What Landlords Gas Safety Certificate publishes

This site uses CP42 as the common name for catering gas certification. Published starting prices are commercial gas from £149 and catering/CP42 from £149. A domestic one-appliance CP12 at £59 is the wrong product for a commercial range line.

Tell us the postcode, whether the kitchen is natural gas or LPG, and how many appliances sit under the canopy. We do not invent a “typical London kitchen appliance count” on this page.
